Who we are
The Senior Informal Conflict Management Practitioner reports to the Ombuds/Director of the Office of the Ombuds and Workplace Well-being. The Office of the Ombuds and Workplace Well-being is an integrated ombuds office providing Informal Conflict Management, Mental Health and Well-being, and Ombuds services to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The office supports a population of approximately 1,000 employees, mostly situated in the National Capital Region. The office reports directly to the Presidents of both organizations, which helps in the provision of independent, confidential, informal, and impartial support to all employees regardless of role and tenure.

What you will do
As a Senior Informal Conflict Management Practitioner, your responsibilities will include:
- Provides informal conflict management intervention services, including individual consultation, conflict coaching, facilitated discussion, mediation, and group intervention or workplace dialogue as appropriate.
- Develops and delivers informal conflict management information and awareness sessions for various audiences.
- Promotes understanding and access to all services offered by the office and contributes to the development of communication and promotional tools and training.
- Provides guidance to management, including executives, on informal conflict management by offering expert advice, analysis, and recommendations on conflict prevention and resolution concepts.
What you need to succeed
Education and Training

Completion of a degree from a post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in conflict management, human resources management, or another field relevant to the position.

A minimum of one hundred and sixty (160) hours of training in conflict management, which must include forty (40) hours of mediation training and completion of advanced mediation skills.

A minimum of forty (40) hours of conflict coaching training
- Forty (40) hours of group intervention training applicable to a workplace setting (Asset)
- Chartered Mediator designation from the ADR Institute of Canada, Inc. (Asset)
Experience
-
Experience in providing workplace informal conflict management services (including conflict analysis, consultation, conflict coaching, facilitated discussion, and mediation).

Experience in the design and delivery of group facilitation processes.

Experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management and managers on issues related to the prevention or effective management of workplace conflict.

Experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge
-
Knowledge of the informal conflict resolution processes and formal recourse mechanisms in the Federal Public Service.

Knowledge of the principles and approaches of interest-based dispute resolution.

Knowledge of Federal Public Service legislation and policies relevant to conflict resolution, human rights, and harassment matters.
