This position is located in our office in Ottawa, Ontario. Successful candidates will be required to report and work onsite from the Ottawa office at least two (2) days per week.

What you will do
As a Manager, Programs Planning and Operations you will be responsible for providing broad horizontal advice and integration and managing the delivery of a range of directorate-wide activities in support of SSHRC’s executive leaders and senior management in order to ensure the Directorate program areas address upcoming issues, challenges and priorities in harmonized, integrated and well informed manner. Conducts research, prepares and presents executive briefings and reports on SSHRC and Tri-Agency program and policy issues. Manages the secretariat services for SSHRC’s Business Integration Committee (BIC) and the Planning and Resources Committee (PRC); leads VP/AVP projects. Serves as a key liaison for Canadian Association of University research Administrators (CAURA) and work collaboratively with counterparts at CIHR and NSERC to ensure harmonized representation in Tri-Agency issues.
What you need to succeed
Education
- A degree from a recognized university, or equivalent, or relevant work experience
- Foreign Credential Validation against Canadian Standards
Experience
- Extensive experience in providing advice and support to management and senior management.
- Several years of experience in the administration of research and/or award-funding programs.
- Experience in program and policy development.
- Experience in providing advice, guidance and support on program policies and procedures, taking account of a diverse range of partners and stakeholders.
- Significant experience in coordination processes to collect and synthesize input from various sources.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of SSHRC and related agencies.
- Knowledge of the Canadian and international research environment.
- Knowledge of the federal government and public policy.
- Extensive knowledge of budget processes and strategic planning.
- Extensive knowledge of performance and impact measurement.
- Knowledge of project planning.
- Knowledge of supervision.
- Knowledge of negotiation and change management.
- Knowledge of information tools and data collection/ monitoring.
Competencies
- Demonstrated skills in the analysis and management of program budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and integrate data and trend information into recommendations on budget allocation and management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage human and financial resources.
- Ability to conceptualize and implement coordination processes.
- Ability to network, collaborate and negotiate effectively with a diverse range of individuals and organizations.
- Ability to plan, manage and control a high volume of activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to make effective presentations.
