Special posting considerations:
These positions fall within a directorate that provides common services to two funding agencies: the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

The intent of this process is to staff two (2) 12-months term appointments, possibility of Acting, assignment, secondment or Interchange and to create a pool of partially and fully qualified candidates that may be used to staff GR-07 HR Strategic Advisor (equivalent of PE-03 in the Public Service) positions within both Agencies in the National Capital Region.

What you will do 

As a HR Strategic Advisor in the Strategic Team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic advice, information and professional services to HR management, practitioners, managers and employees in fields such as: employment equity, diversity and inclusion, accessibility, official languages, learning, performance management or HR policies, strategies and surveys
  • Conducting research, drafting reports and briefing materials, and developing comprehensive overviews of HR trends and best practices 
  • Collaborating with internal partners on shared initiatives and giving presentations to different audiences, as needed
  • Providing input on communication materials and monitoring the results of implemented of HR plans, policies and programs.

 

What you need to succeed

Education

  • Graduation with a degree from a post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in human resources management, labor or industrial relations, psychology, public or business administration, organizational development, education sciences, social sciences, sociology, or an acceptable combination of education, experience or training relevant to the position.

Experience

  • Experience in contributing to the development, and implementation and monitoring of frameworks, strategies, policies and programs related to human resources management
  • Experience in developing and writing presentations, reports, written recommendations, or briefing notes to senior management and/or internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in providing advice and recommendations to managers and employees.
  • Experience in researching and analyzing issues related to HR disciplines and preparing reports and position papers for strategic directions, as well as HR program and policy approaches 

Assets

  • Experience in the fields of employment equity, diversity and inclusion, accessibility and official languages
  • Experience in coordinating or leading committees or working groups
  • Experience in developing tools and resources to support staff
