What you will do
The Webmaster provides the overall interface design and front-end development of online products for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). This includes setting high quality standards and creative principles to optimize performance to develop the best design concepts, development, and integration for public-facing and intranet sites.
Keeps abreast of and recommends new modes of online communication using emerging Web technologies and trends. Creates and develops interactive assets to promote the information, policies, activities and awareness of council initiatives and programs including the enhancement of Web technologies and products. Posts and updates content on our Web sites and Intranet site.
What you need to succeed
Education
-
Degree from a recognized university or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position.
Experience
- Experience in planning, designing, and maintaining Web sites and Intranet sites
- Experience in project management
- Experience in dealing with vendors and contractors
- Technical experience in developing wireframes, visual design concepts and working prototypes for Web sites and Intranets
- Experience with one or more content management systems
- Experience in user analysis, usability testing requirements analysis, functional specifications, and quality assurance
- Experience in Web design taking projects from concept to functional pages
- Experience with scripting and mark-up languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and SQL
- Experience with C# and ASP.NET is considered an asset
- Experience creating mobile apps for iPhone, iPad, or Android is considered an asset
- Experience with custom application development and integration is considered an asset
Knowledge
- Knowledge of online marketing tactics, website analytics, information architecture, usability and user-experience design
- Knowledge of digital and social platforms and APIs and keen understanding as to the creative and technical possibilities of each platform
- Knowledge of key Web development and imaging software including Photoshop, Dreamweaver and/or Visual Studio
- Knowledge of mark-up languages such as HTML, Cascading Style Sheets and XHTML, client-side scripting such as JavaScript
- Basic knowledge of Treasury Board rules and regulations concerning the development of government Web sites, such as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1), Official Languages, Common Look and Feel guidelines and the principles of communication
